About Déise College

Déise College is based in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. Our new purpose built premises are located at Dungarvan Business Centre, Fairlane, Shandon, Co. Waterford, a quite location contributing to an ideal environment to engage in productive study. The College started in 2003 and has grown consistently since then mainly due to the quality of service on offer at the College. For all grinds, we feel it’s important to keep numbers small and to this end we endeavour to keep class numbers below 8 students with the norm being around 4/5. Supervised study is very strict but fair and the main rule is that a student cannot cause disruption to another student. Our revision courses are in their 16th year and continue to provide students with a one day quality intensive recap on the subject that they choose to partake in, again with class numbers for these courses well below the nationally average, usually with 5/6 student, allowing for a more personal as opposed to lecture style environment.

The owners, Alan and Caroline Ryan, are two highly experienced secondary school teachers. Alan graduated from University College, Dublin in 1994 with an honours Bachelor of Commerce degree, following which he completed his 1st class Honours Teaching Diploma in University of Limerick in 1995. He has been teaching business subjects since then and as well as correcting up to Leaving Cert HL he has given courses to other teachers nationwide on methodologies of teaching business subjects as well as writing a bestselling revision book for Leaving Cert Business published by Folens and a specially commissioned Enterprise workbook for County Enterprise Boards used nationally by transition years.  He has also recently spent four years studying part-time at University College Cork during which time he completed his Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration and his Masters in Education.

Caroline graduated from University of Limerick in 1999 with an honours degree in Irish and PE. She has also completed a Teaching Diploma in Spanish at University College Cork and has been teaching full-time since 1999. She has contributed to educational materials such as Teachnet.ie and is also a Dept of Education examiner for Irish, in particular recently concentrating on correcting the Dept of Education Leaving Cert Irish orals.

Deise College also employs a number of teachers to provide tuition/grinds in various subjects and at various levels. Most of our teachers have been with us since we started in 2003 and all have vast teaching experience up to honours Leaving Cert level as well as being experienced Dept of Education examiners, with some also being regular contributors to educational materials on newspapers and on educational supplements.
